Linking CCTV footage to high-risk transactions or events relied on manual searches, slowing investigations and limiting efficiency across a 100+ store estate.
Traditional Transpeye setups needed local software installed at each DVR/NVR, plus individual device integrations — creating significant cost, time, and maintenance burdens.
Rolling out updates or changes across the national estate was slow and resource-heavy, holding back Hobbycraft’s ability to adapt quickly and get more value from their CCTV investment.
Hobbycraft had already invested in Hikvision CCTV across its 100+ stores, giving teams live and recorded access via HIK Connect. But linking footage to high-risk transactions or security events was slow and manual. Traditional Transpeye setups required software installed at every DVR/NVR and individual device integrations — costly, complex, and hard to scale across a national estate.
The challenge was clear: connect CCTV and EPOS data in real time, without the heavy cost and delays of on-site installs.

Working with Transpeye and Hikvision, we engineered a Cloud-to-Cloud integration via the Hik ProConnect API. Instead of local installs, Transpeye now pulls the right CCTV footage directly from the cloud and automatically matches it to flagged transactions or events, including:
- EPOS transactions such as refunds, voids, or discounts
- Triggers from alarms, EAS gates, or shelf sensors
- Behavioural events defined by Hobbycraft’s own risk rules
This video-first intelligence model cut deployment time drastically, reduced costs, and created an agile platform that’s easy to update across all stores at once.
“This setup with remote review is now real-time, on-demand, and the ability to drill into any behavioural event is used for a huge range of purposes to develop our business. The amount of transactions we can review at speed has vastly increased the number of investigations with successful outcomes. The speed to deploy was amazingly quick thanks to both Hikvision and Transpeye.”
— Scott Upsall, Head of Loss Prevention, Hobbycraft
By combining specialist technology integration with a problem-solving approach, Lodge, Transpeye, and Hikvision delivered a future-proofed, efficient, and highly effective loss prevention platform. Hobbycraft’s teams can now focus on the top 20% of risks that drive 80% of the problems — with the right data, footage, and insight available in real time.
